Convenient options help students save money

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo - Three Rivers Community College has planned its summer classes to meet the needs of area students and families and help them cope with the rising price of gasoline.

Three Rivers offers most summer courses during a four-day week, with classes meeting Monday through Thursday. In addition, Three Rivers offers summer courses in two shorter four-week terms and a traditional eight-week summer term. Classes are offered on the campus in Poplar Bluff and at Three Rivers' centers and sites throughout Southeast Missouri.

Summer classes at Three Rivers begin June 2, with an eight-week full summer session and four-week A session.

"We're trying to be responsive to our students' needs," said Executive Vice President and Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Larry Kimbrow. "Of course, it's not just the price of gas - almost all costs related to transportation are on the rise. Most of our Three Rivers' students commute to campus and centers from throughout Southeast Missouri. Therefore, if we can offer a schedule so that students can spend less on commuting, we feel that's a logical and appropriate thing to do."

Kimbrow noted that Three Rivers is offering more than 40 online classes this summer. Online classes offer the convenience of taking courses from a student's home computer or any computer with an Internet connection. Three Rivers has seen an increase in the popularity and success of E-learning opportunities that add a new level of ease and flexibility in completing college studies.

"Three Rivers remains committed to providing the very best learning opportunities to our area with accessible and affordable prices," Kimbrow said. Tuition at Three Rivers is among the lowest in the state, at just $67 per credit hour for students in the TRCC taxing district of Butler, Carter, Ripley and Wayne counties, and $107 for students living outside the district.

Registration for the full summer session and Session B continue through June 3; registration for Session B continues through June 30. Classes in the Full Summer Session will meet June 2 -- July 28; Session A will meet June 2 -22; Session B will meet June 30 -- July 28.
