Sears policies benefit troops

To the editor:

In this era of shameful corporate misbehavior, the question deserves to be asked, "What kind of corporate citizens should we, are we, inviting into our home community?"

While not intending to slight anyone not mentioned, in our opinion the Sears example is one that sets the positive standard. Sears deserves our utmost respect and deserves our shopping dollars for the support they provide our military families. Sears extended its program of military pay differential to 36 months. In addition to this making up of each called-up Sears soldier's lost wages, this program also allows Sears reservists who are full-time employees to continue participating in the company's life insurance, medical and dental programs for the protection of their families, if they choose. Sears also holds a comparable position open for them awaiting their return for up to five years.

Sears maintains its heritage of commitment to families and home. According to a Sears spokesperson, "We are proud to be able to take these actions to demonstrate support for our many co-workers who are serving our nation." We all have opportunities to vote with our pocketbooks for either exemplary corporate citizenship or for the other kind. If you will, join me and support our troops by shopping at Sears every chance you get. And stop any manager and tell him why you're there.
