Harvey W. Protzel died May 9, 2008, at his son's home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 30, 1919, in St. Louis, the dear son of the late Irving and Henrietta Protzel. Beloved husband of the late Shirley Protzel. Dear father of Edward (Janet Jourman) Protzel, Hugh (Donna) Protzel and Jerre (the late Elmo) Crowell. Loving grandfather of Isaac, Alexander and Ethan Protzel, Lori (Chris Blumenhorst) Lipkind and David (Deidre Cone) Lipkind. Dear great-grandfather of Esabel and Benjamin Blumenhorst. Beloved brother of the late Robert (Evelyn) Protzel. Dear nephew of the late Morris "Butch" Yatkeman. Our dear uncle, cousin and friend.
Mr. Protzel served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was the district supervisor for Management Consulting Services (Ernst and Ernst), president and CEO of Safeguard Business Systems, president of Data Processing Management Association and president and CEO of H.W. Protzel and Co. Inc. (a management consulting firm). Mr. Protzel served as president of Missouri Lodge—B'nai Brith, North Valley Lodge—B'nai Brith and State of Missouri B'nai Brith. He was also a board member of the Anti-Defamation League. He was a contributing editor for the National DPMA magazine and National Office magazine. Mr. Protzel had numerous articles on improving business practices published in a number of foreign countries, as well as the United States. He was a nationally well-known speaker to business conventions. After retirement in 1983, he was the song and dance man with the traveling entertainers group known as the Klassy Kickers. Harvey and his late wife Shirley were recognized world travelers.
Graveside service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Chevra Kadisha Cemetery, 1601 North and South Road, St. Louis.
