Leon Morton, 76, of Jackson passed away Sunday, May 4, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born in Leemon, Mo., son of Ed and Hester Medlock Morton. He and Mary Margaret Ward were married Nov. 20, 1949. She survives.
Leon attended school in Jackson. He worked for the City of Jackson 17 years, and then was assistant city superintendent at Kennett, Mo., from 1971 to 1973. He owned and operated Lin-Mar Supply Co. in Jackson for a number of years and later became co-owner of Cape Janitorial Supply Co. in Cape Girardeau, retiring in 1997.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Fruitland, Excelsior Masonic Lodge 441 in Jackson, Sword of Bunker Hill, and was a former member of Jackson Rotary Club.
Leon was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He enjoyed morning breakfast with friends, spending time outdoors, and being at home surrounded by his family. Everyone who knew Leon will miss his jokes and good nature.
Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years; two daughters, Pat Golden and husband Steve of Jackson, Kathy Nicholas of Jackson; three grandchildren, Shawn and Chad Golden, and Casey Nicholas and wife Lacey, all of Jackson; three great-grandchildren, Mara and Nickolas Golden, and Brody Nicholas, all of Jackson; two brothers, Jerry Morton and wife Linda of Jackson, Glen Morton and wife Evelyn of Jackson; two sisters, Betty Hink of Florissant, Mo., and Doris King and husband Roger of Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with Dr. Barry Winders and the Rev. Richard Combs officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fruitland.
