Saxony's McLard strikes out 16, hits one in no-hitter

The only thing that stood between Nicole McLard and perfection was a hit batter.
McLard struck out 16 and didn't allow a hit to lead the Saxony Lutheran softball team to a 1-0 victory over Leopold on Wednesday.
The Crusaders scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh. Angel Stone came in to score on a sacrifice bunt by Kara Versemann.
Whitney Vandeven was the tough-luck loser. She struck out nine and allowed two hits.
The Crusaders improved to 7-2, while the Wildcats fell to 13-2.

Delta 11, Shawnee, Ill. 2
Kendra Burnett went 2-for-4 with a double and triple, plus drove in four runs to lead the Bobcats.
Burnett also picked up the win on the mound. She struck out 11 over six innings to improve to 6-2 this season.
Amanda Seabaugh belted a solo homer in the win.

Becca Hanquist netted two goals, while Kendra Schilli added a goal and two assists as the Pirates improved to 10-4.
Ashley Reid added her first goal of the season, and Alyssa Bauwens tallied an assist.
Natalie Bauwens made three saves in goal.
Central 5, Festus 2
Garrett Stevens went 2-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Tigers (10-13) to a road win.
Zach Wilson earned the win for Central. Blake Smith and Ryan Grigaitis each added two hits for the winners.

Scott City 22, Meadow Heights 1
Ryan Modglin was, to put it simply, nasty.
Modglin went 4-for-5 with two round-trippers, seven RBIs and earned the win on the mound as the Rams (13-1) romped past the Panthers.
Scott City pounded out 16 hits.
The Rams scored 10 runs in the first, then added a six pack in the second and another four in the third.
Adam Williams took the loss for the Panthers.

Chaffee 15, Leopold 4
The Red Devils pounded out 11 hits on their way to a lopsided win over the Wildcats.
Josh Steger went 2-for-3 with four RBIs to lead Chaffee (14-5).
Trenton Horman, Andy Hendrix, Aaron Horrell and Adam Horton all had multiple hits.
Dustin Thiele hit a home run for the Wildcats, who beat Saxony Lutheran earlier in the day.

Shelby Kight hit a home run for Delta.
Joe Kinder added a double and two RBIs in the loss.
