Jackson camps: The Jackson Indian basketball camps will offer multiple sessions next week, Monday through June 25. Individual camps for grades 3-4 (9-11 a.m.), 5-6 (noon-2 p.m.) and 7-8 (2-4 p.m.) will take place at the multipurpose gym. A pee-wee camp for grades 1-2 will be 10 a.m.-noon June 28-July 2 at South Elementary, and a shooting camp for grades 4-7 will be 9 a.m.-noon July 19-23 at the multipurpose gym. Girls camp: Central High School's final girls basketball camp is Monday through June 24 with sessions for grades 4-6 (9-11 a.m.), grades 7-8 (8-10 a.m.) and grades 9-12 (10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.). Info: 335-8467.
Ballhandling clinic: The Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring ballhandling clinics June 28 (grades 6-8), June 29 (grades 9-12) and June 30 (grades 9-12) at the Jackson High School old gym. Sessions will be 10 a.m. to noon. Cost is $10 for grades 6-8 and $15 for grades 9-12.
Tigers basketball camp: Central High School will host several boys basketball camps in July for those entering grades 3-9 as well as a Little Dribblers camp for boys and girls entering grades 1-3. The cost is $35 for each camp on advance registration with discounts for multiple siblings. Info: 335-8467.
Central summer camps: Central High School will offer: a team camp for athletes entering grades 9-12 on July 26-29, with 6-8 p.m. sessions at the high school ($10 fee); and Tiger Football School for athletes entering grades 5-8 on June 28-July 1, with 9-11 a.m. sessions at the junior high practice field ($15 fee, registration on site upon arrival). Players pass: Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course is offering the Twenty Players Pass. The pass is $200 and covers 20 greens fees that can be used by any golfer at any time this year for up to 18 holes of play. Pass cannot be used for tournaments. Four-person scramble: Sixth annual Retired Senior Volunteer Program Golf Tournament will take place July 16 at Cape Jaycee Municipal Golf Course. Format is a four-person scramble. Entry fee: $60 per person. Lunch at noon and 1 p.m. shotgun start. Info: Tina Dohogne, 335-7555.
Cross country camp: The Jackson Cross Country Camp begins Monday and concludes June 25. It is open to boys and girls entering grades 6-12. There is no fee. Runners will meet 7 p.m. each night at Jackson City Park at the pavilion above the swimming pool for 90-minute sessions. Participants should be dressed to run. Capaha Classic: The 17th annual Capaha Classic 5-kilometer run and children's one-mile run will be July 10 beginning at Capaha Park. The Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department sponsors the event with Kidd's and Pepsi. Registration is 7-7:45 a.m. on race day. Fees are $7.85 for pre-registered runners and $9.05 on the day of the race. Info: 335-5421.
Challenger camp: The Challenger British Soccer Camp is scheduled for June 28-July 2 at Jackson City Park soccer field No. 1. The camp includes 1 1/2-hour sessions for novice players and three-hour sessions for recreational and competitive players. The staff also will offer a free coaching clinic for parents and coaches. Southeast camps: The Southeast Missouri State University Soccer Camps include the following sessions: residential camp (coed, ages 10-17), July 29-Aug. 1 with training sessions at Houck Stadium, fees $125 to $200; mini academy (ages 5-11), Aug. 4-6 at Houck Stadium, $40 fee; CAYSA Soccer Camp presented by Southeast coaching staff (ages 5-11), Aug. 9-11 at Shawnee Park complex ($40). CATA programs: The Cape Area Tennis Association will offer a number of events this summer: A Saturday morning social doubles play, which has started, at Central High School ($1 playing fee); the Universal Health and Fitness Summer Camps for ages 6-14, sessions begin Monday and July 5; and the Cape Tennis Training Camp, July 26-29, for girls who plan to try out for their high schools' girls teams ($55). ACE Tennis tournament: The All Cancer Erased Tennis Tournament will be June 26-27 at the Southeast Missouri State tennis courts on the corner of Sprigg and Bertling. Entry fee is $12 for adult singles events, $18 for adult doubles, $8 for 16-and-under singles and $10 for 16-and-under doubles. Entry deadline is June 23. Info: 204-8848.
Sand tournament: The third annual 4-on-4 Sand Blast Volleyball Tournament, presented by the Cape Girardeau Parks and Recreation Department, will be July 25 at the Arena Park Sand Courts. The coed tournament has a $63 entry fee and requires each team to have at least one female player on the court at all times.
