Women's club presents pet events in Scott City
The Scott City Women's Club will hold its first Summerfest Pets on Parade this weekend. The lineup begins at 5 p.m. Friday at IGA. Pets need to be on a leash; prize will be awarded for best costume. A pet contest begins at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Horseshoe Pavilion; sign up starts at noon. Contests include best dressed, best trick, couch potato, pet/owner look alike and pet races. There will be prizes, ribbons, balloons and raffles.
Civil War Round Table to meet Sunday at church
The Cape Girardeau County Chapter of the Civil War Round Table will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Fellowship Room of Hanover Lutheran Church, 2949 Perryville Road, Cape Girardeau. The speaker, Larry Powers, will present a program on "Cape Girardeau's Civil War Fort D," the only remaining fort on an undeveloped site. Plans made to spruce up Jaycee Joyland at park
Choctaw Park, located at 2300 Broadway, will be closed to the public from June 23 to 27 while the Cape Girardeau Junior Chamber of Commerce cleans and repaints the playground equipment at "Jaycee Joyland" located there. Traffic passing by from 8 a.m. to noon June 26 is invited stop by for more information on the Jaycees.
American Red Cross to hold annual meeting
The American Red Cross chapter in Cape Girardeau will hold its annual meeting at noon June 29 at Centenary United Methodist Church Family Life Center, 300 N.
