Letter to the Editor

Credit for yes vote goes to many

To the editor:

It is most appropriate that the residents of Cape Girardeau are commended for the successful passing of the fire sales tax. Our expectations for voter turnout were far exceeded. At this time we would like to thank Mayor Jay Knudtson and the city council, city manager Doug Leslie, police chief Steve Strong and fire chief Rick Ennis. However, none of this could have been accomplished without the efforts of Jim Riley, Don McNeeley, Harry Rediger and the rest of the Committee to Vote Yes.

In addition, we would like to thank those who gave monetary and verbal endorsements to the campaign as well as putting signs in your yards, writing letters to the editor, sending postcards and direct mailings. All were very much appreciated. We also thank those who attended meetings, gave testimonials and put forth the extra effort to make this campaign a success.

Above all we would like to thank you, the residents of Cape Girardeau, for voting yes, with much appreciation from the employees and families of your police and fire departments.CRYSTAL BARKER
