Thanks for special Scouting event

Thursday, May 13, 2004

To the editor:

Because of the volunteering spirit, Classroom Scouting Adventure Day for special-needs students was a huge success May 8.

I want to take this opportunity to say thank you to the many volunteers and the Cape County Park South employees for making possible the many scouting activity areas for the 260 Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts and their teachers from Southern Illinois and Southeast Missouri classrooms.

In addition to approximately 60 volunteers, the planning committee worked hard to make our third annual outing so worthwhile: Jerry Ford, Jeanne Long, David Giles, Sara Scheper and Shirley Stevens of Otahki Girl Scout Council; Bob Francis, Ellie Knight and Kristi Hettenhausen of Shagbark Girl Scout Council; and Pat Abernathy, Cathie Lundry and Judy Zakibe, chairman.

Also assisting were Charles Pruitt, Jim Wente, Tim Henderschott, Boy Scout Troop 5, Cape Girardeau County Disaster Agency, Prairie Farms Dairy, American Legion, Kelley Trucking and Transportation, Southeast Missourian, Cash-Book Journal, Wal-Mart, Norm Robert, Schnucks Supermarkets, Evelyn Goss, Mick Wessel, Main Street Fitness, Missouri Conservation Department and the band trio of Pat Schwent, John Quinn and Joe Blackwell.
