Former legislator gets probation for scam

ST. LOUIS -- A former lawmaker from suburban St. Louis will serve five years probation and repay nearly $20,000 for his part in a credit card scheme, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. John Bowman Sr., a Democrat from Northwoods, was sentenced Friday for a misdemeanor charge of bribing a bank official. He had paid former Bank of America executive Robert Conner $1,000 for processing a phony small-business credit card application. Bowman resigned his legislative seat when he pleaded guilty in January to a reduced offense.
