Poplar Bluff retains title at ND Invitational

Jackson's Brett Leimbach and Tanner Werner tied for second place overall after firing 79s at Monday's Notre Dame Invitational played at Bent Creek Golf Course in Jackson.

Poplar Bluff defended its team title with a score of 338.

Notre Dame was led by Brett Slaten (81) and finished second with a 340.

Jackson finished at 343 in third place, and Jack Connell (85) led fifth-place Central to a 364.

Brandon Trapp (96) paced St. Vincent to a seventh-place finish, Tyler James (93) helped Saxony Lutheran to a ninth-place finish and Wes Buchheit (116) was Perryville's top scorer as the Pirates placed 11th.

Chance Holden of Dexter was the medalist with a 4-over-par 76.

Saxony Lutheran romped at home for its second win to start the season.

Chris Roth pitched his second consecutive victory for the Crusaders (2-0) with six strong innings. He allowed two hits and struck out 10.

Ben Courtois led Saxony's offense with three hits and three RBIs. Garrett Fritsche and Bryant Steffens both had two hits and two RBIs. Saxony finished with 11 hits.

Scott City scored 13 runs in the fourth inning as it blanked New Madrid County Central on one hit during a five-inning home romp.

Skylar Cobb had two doubles and four RBIs, Ryan Modglin added two hits and two RBIs, and Clayton Hall had three RBIs.

Scott City (2-0) had eight hits and received 14 walks from NMCC pitchers.

Winning hurler Shae Simmons struck out seven and walked two in four hitless innings. Cobb pitched one inning of one-hit relief.

Aaron Horrell went 2-for-2 and delivered six RBIs to lead Chaffee over visiting Kelly.

The Red Devils (2-0) were also aided by Andy Hendrix, who went 2-for-2 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Josh Steger, Hunter Thomas, and Adam Horton all added two hits. Steger and Horton each had two RBIs.

Andrew Dooley notched the victory as Kelly had just one hit.

Darren Yamnitz pitched a two-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking none as St. Vincent crushed host Perryville.

Kyle Rollet went 3-for-3 with a home run and two doubles for the Indians (1-1). Quint Robinson had two hits, including a homer, while Adam Bucheit and Matt Hotop both added two hits.

Mindey Siebert netted two second-half goals and Notre Dame defeated visiting Sikeston in its season opener.

Freshman Ann Wren had two assists for the Bulldogs (1-0). Shelly Frank was in goal for the shutout.

St. Vincent 4, Windsor 0

Amanda Wengert netted two goals and Brooke Brown added two assists as St. Vincent rolled past host Windsor.

The Indians (2-0) also got goals from Jessica Welker and Sarah Moll, while Emily Cissell added an assist. Ann Steele recorded the shutout.
