MoDOT closes some low-water crossings in south-central Missouri

Monday, March 3, 2008

Several Missouri highways east of Springfield are flooded due to overly-wet conditions in west and central portions of Missouri.

"Those are the 'usual suspects'. We've got quite a few closed this afternoon but I anticipate they're reopened in 24 hours," said Angela Eden, MoDOT spokeswoman. The southwest area of the state is anticipating 8 to 10 inches of snow. "This winter has been a little whacky for us. A lot of our weather systems have started out as drenching rain and then we've had that wraparound moisture, the cold front, freezing rain, sleet."

She said no major roads are affected.

Weather services predict another hit to the Interstate 44 corridor and points from central to southern Missouri this evening into tomorrow. Periods of heavy snow and high wind are expected. Should white-out conditions occur, expect highways to close. Travelers should make plans now for that possibility.

Consult the Traveler Information Map for up-to-date closure information. MoDOT's customer service line number is 1-888 ASK MODOT (888-275-6636).
