Saving money

IF CAPE Girardeau and Jackson want to save money on storm cleanup, they should do what the Cape Girardeau County Highway Department does: push the limbs in the nearest creek to be someone else's problem. What a way to save money.

Viewing the damage

I DROVE around to see the ice damage in Cape Girardeau and Jackson. Despite what other callers have angrily said, I am not ashamed of that. I did not get in anyone's way, and I didn't stop to help because I'm totally useless for that type of thing. However, I did take food and blankets to a couple of families in need. This ice storm was like nothing I had seen, and I knew the pictures probably couldn't do it justice. I wanted to see the devastation. That's not a crime, and it's not insensitive.

Managing well

I AM a fairly young man with a wife, two children and two cars. I have close to $30,000 in savings and several nice antiques. Our money is well-managed. Mercedes, BMWs and other high-end cars don't interest us. I once owned a Jaguar. It was the worst car I've ever seen. I've owned two 40-year-old Mustangs that were mechanically superior, more aesthetically pleasing, cheaper to work on and faster. The biggest difference between irresponsible youngsters and all-knowing financial wizards of the mature set is that we youngsters don't need Viagra with wheels.

Paper delivered

THANKS TO the Southeast Missourian carrier who managed to deliver our newspapers every day on Bertling Street during the ice storm. With no power for two days, the newspaper was a ray of sunshine each morning.

Profit for us

IT'S TRUE that the new federal building has had some problems, but the people complaining about their tax dollars being wasted are misinformed. For at least a decade, Missouri has had a positive balance of payments with the federal government. In 2005, the most recent year I could find data for, Missouri took in $1.32 in federal spending for every $1 we paid in federal taxes. Those federal dollars are being spent on construction here and going into the local economy at the expense of states like New Jersey, Nevada and California. Sure, the money should be spent wisely -- for the sake of taxpayers in those states. Wise or not, it's a net profit to us.

Thanks in Bollinger Co.

A BIG thank you to Black River Electric Co-op and all the emergency workings who assisted in the ice storm in Bollinger County. Also a big thank you to the First Baptist Church of Marble Hill for opening its doors to anyone needing a place to stay and food to eat.

Debt problems

I JUST read that the Air Force budget is short of what's needed. Then on the radio I heard Paul Harvey say President Bush promised Rwanda $100 million. Where's Bush going to get the $100 million? We're borrowing everything now from China. When we have needs here in the United States we're told we don't have the money. Our government is taking care of everyone but the American people. Politicians tell us not to overspend, but the U.S. is so far in debt that we will never get out.

Landlord's stuff

IF YOU rent a house, does the landlord have the right to bring stuff and park it in your yard? I thought if you rented a house, the yard went with the house. The landlord should have no right to bring old cars and stuff and put it in your yard just because he owns the house. He doesn't want his own home to look bad, but he brings eyesores to make your yard look bad.

Ordinary people

I ENJOYED the article about the Bucket Brigade women from Altenburg who do the cleaning. I wish the paper would publish more stories like this about ordinary people from around this area. That's really what makes the Missourian interesting.

Thanks for help

THANK YOU to all the out-of-town workers who came to help Jackson in our time of crisis during the ice storm. It's appreciated. God bless you all.

Disgraceful expense

IT IS a disgrace that we would pay James Carville and his wife $64,000 to speak in Cape Girardeau. Whoever is responsible for bringing them here should have to pay that $64,000 out of their own pockets. I cannot believe we're doing stuff like this.

Wake-up call

DURING THE ice storm we received a wake-up call. This was nothing close to a real catastrophe. We witnessed so many doing outstanding jobs, including neighbor helping neighbor. I sense an uneasiness when I think of the what-ifs. Let's say we have a major earthquake. Would we have stable facilities with temporary power, food, water and bedding for a large number of people? This is an enormous concern that would be hard to address. Spring will come soon. As things become warm and beautiful, we will forget. If we do, then it really wasn't a wake-up call at all.

Keep it affordable

WHY DO schools like Southeast Missouri State University compare room and board and tuition to other schools? Just make it as cheap as you can so you can get by. Don't worry what the other schools charge. Do it as cheaply as you can so our students can get an education.

Chaffee workers

I WOULD like to thank the Chaffee Public Works Department. They were wonderful with all the ice. They got up at 2 a.m. and sometimes worked around the clock clearing off the streets and picking up limbs. I don't think they get enough appreciation.

Plant pecan trees

I KNOW the ice storm did a lot of damage to a lot of trees. I've got about 65 pecan trees, and not one of them was damaged. They make good shade. If everybody would plant a couple pecan trees, ice wouldn't break the limbs off.

Safe and feasible

I JUST read where our trade deficit with China is $1 billion a day. China is our second-leading trade partner behind Canada. We know that China uses child and elderly labor to make the cheap products we buy. China also is spying on the U.S. at an alarming rate. It recently refused two U.S. ships safe haven from a hurricane. This is the same China that was training Iraqis to shoot down our planes just before we invaded. All of this, and we have sanctions against Cuba. Sadly we show our might only when we know that it's safe or economically feasible.

School selling

I HAVE had it with schools and their fundraising. Family and friends can only be hit up so many times. When is it going to stop? Now we are being told we have to sell overpriced chocolates, cookie dough and cheesecake to raise money to buy new sewing machines, dishes and other things for an elective class. Where does all our tax money go? If the district can't afford these items, they do not need to offer these classes. I have had enough.

Safe and feasible: It is not unusual for Navy ships to be asked to leave a port during hurricanes. I have some great pictures of us leaving Kaohsiung, Taiwan during a Typhoon. I was on a tin can that took some pretty hefty rolls while leaving. In a port such as Kaohsiung has, it could be dangerous to leave ships anchored in the bay.

School selling

Call me a bad mom but when my kids bring the stuff home if I feel it is high priced and junk then it gets put up and forgotten about. Paying 13 bucks for cookie dough is ridiculious and I am not going to do it. Bernie schools do not have the fundraisers instead the school makes up t-shirts, mugs, car window decals etc with the schools mascot on it and they sell it to raise money. It is all cheaper and something that can actually be used. A lot more schools should follow this pattern.

Managing well

Not all young couples are worried about material things although the majority are. If you start from an early age saving 10% of your weekly pay then by the time you retire you can have a nice nest egg and you will not even miss the money once you get use to setting it aside.

"IT IS a disgrace that we would pay James Carville and his wife $64,000 to speak in Cape Girardeau"

I agree with this caller, I can watch him on TV for FREE.

-- Posted by Aggiefan/Twiggy on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:09 AM

Aggie,

Could we not say that about any speaker/entertainer?

-- Posted by SWBG on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:55 AM

Landlord's stuff

The fact is, you are living in a house that is owned by somebody else. Therefore the house and YARD in this case are his to do what he likes with. If he puts something in the yard that you don't like, you have 2 options, complain to your landlord or leave. Your waisting your money on renting that house anyway.

-- Posted by KoH_Cliff on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:59 AM

Safe and feasible: You want a war with China because they are selling the US things that it obviously wants. Who is going to loan the US the money to fight a war with China? China is an economic powerhouse, just as the US is. Economic powerhouses make the world better off. Wars make the world poorer with their destruction of wealth.

-- Posted by James Nall on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:11 AM

Landlord's stuff-I agree with cliff and if you can't buy you need to rent somewhere else because this landlord is going to be nothing but trouble anyway.

I would like to have seen Mary Matalin but didn't find out she was here until after the fact. Maybe I was busy with the ice and just missed the promotion of her visit. $64000 seems like a lot but when compared to the millions urinated away on the River Campus it seems like a pretty trivial amount. Also the university went for some balance by allowing her husband to appear also.

-- Posted by stevmo on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:23 AM

Safe and easy:

What an excellent idea! Do you have any areas in mind or should we choose the most convenient place for them to be.

Seriously, I am surprised that some people are not cutting them up and selling them as firewood. When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!

Viewing Damage

It is refreshing to know that you helped out others in need. I think the Speak Out caller automatically assumes that you were driving around to mock them of their misfortune. Unfortunately, they were probably not in the best mindset to make a sweeping judgment.

It would also be nice if people would ask if they need help. Sometimes people look capable of doing this hard bit of work.

Landlord's Stuff?

Have you tried talking to your landlord? Communication goes a long way...

Wake up Call

I think SE Missouri has handled the disaster pretty good. Much better than many other towns in America. Since you saw many "holes" in this process, perhaps you could head up an effort to become more prepared?

School Selling

I can understand why people would get upset about public schools doing fundraisers. Theoretically, our taxes should take care of all of their needs. Of course, this is a pipe dream.

But you can't blame private schools for doing this. They don't have the state and federal support that public schools are supposed to have. Unfortunately, they have to squeeze their sources dry. Usually when you go with a private school, you are making a sacrifice or compromise.

Saving money

Here's a novel idea: Cut up and haul off your downed limbs yourself.

-- Posted by DTower on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:59 AM

re: landlord's stuff

No, your landlord does not have the right to park his stuff in your yard. In fact, he has no right to even come on the property without your permission.

-- Posted by conservababe on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:27 AM

Conservababe,

I tried pulling that excuse with my parents when I was younger. They always retorted with, "As long as you live under my roof..."

I don't think your advice would fly many tenants. Landlord will probably say, "You don't like it, then get out."

Nice try though.

-- Posted by DTower on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:36 AM

Conservababe,

I thought that was right, but wasn't sure. I dont think that landlords have a right to do such things with that property once they rent/lease it to someone else.

-- Posted by allen6177 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:37 AM

Landlords can do pretty much whatever they want if it is stipulated in a contract.

-- Posted by gehagge on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:41 AM

school selling

I totally agree. My daughter has three children in elementary school and she has given up because of the sheer volumn of requests from the schools to sell junk. Children used to do chores for money to donate to their schools.

Also there is a problem with businesses using the school children instead of hiring an ad agency. Their backpacks are stuffed with more brochures and ads than papers pertaining to their school work. If pizza parlors want to help the schools why not just donate funds instead offering 10% off on certain nights.

-- Posted by conservababe on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:41 AM

The landlord has to give 24 hours notice before showing up at the property. Also, the landlord does have to keep a nice and clean area. So, you are correct, the landlord does not have the right to park the car in the yard. But, the fact is, you can complain, the landlord can be ordered to move it, you now have a bad relationship, the landlord may raise the rent, may be slow at responding to problems, and so many more things that wouldn't be expected. The fact is, if you have a landlord that puts things on the rented land, your best option is to move.

-- Posted by KoH_Cliff on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:44 AM

gehagge

Good point, is the caller renting the house with the land or just the house? If it is a big lot, it may not be in the contract that the caller is renting the entire lot. In which case, the landlord can do whatever they want with that land.

-- Posted by KoH_Cliff on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:45 AM

Landlord's stuff.

Suggest reading your lease/rental agreement; it might offer insight as to whom has what rights?

I think that the businesses that offer a percentage of sales on a certain night to area schools are in a win/win situation. Hopefully there will be an increase in sales for the business, a good donation to the school, and also a night for families and to get together with others in their neighborhood and have a fun night eating out and getting acquainted. Plus, friends, family and neighbors who don't like being hit up all of the time to buy useless, overpriced junk, do not have to feel pressure to buy from the sweet little kid that is sent out begging for their schools. (and the children aren't being exploited!) I am all for the School Nights at restaurants!

-- Posted by thinks2much on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 11:25 AM

I wonder if the nation's food police have looked into what kind of efect the sale of candy and other confectioner products have on the overweight problem in this country. That candy bar that you buy from the children and those cookies you buy from Brownies could cause diabetes or early heart conditions. Now do I get employed by the Feds?

-- Posted by James Nall on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 11:56 AM

Unless you folks offering legal advice to a renter are licensed to practice law in the State of Missouri, I would suggest you refrain.

The best advice is to consult an attorney.

-- Posted by Hellomynameis on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:07 PM

Hellomynameis,

It is just suggestions and opinions. I don't believe anyone stated they were giving legal advice!

-- Posted by KoH_Cliff on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:11 PM

A long time ago I rented an apartment from an elderly lady, she came into my apartment when I was gone several times. I didn't know until a few little things started disappearing, her son told me when I confronted him about it that she had the right as a landlord to come in and check things out whenever she pleased, that it was perfectly legal. Anyway to make a long story short I did ask a lawyer and at that time it was perfectly legal for her to come and go and she pleased. I do think now though that the laws have changed at least that is what I have been told.

-- Posted by Twiggy60 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:12 PM

Point being Cliff, if you want legal advice, consult an attorney. Even a licensed attorney wouldn't post an answer on a public forum such as this.

-- Posted by Hellomynameis on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:14 PM

James,

You may be onto something. But then they would start selling those candles that smell like food. I think those make people hungry and want to eat more. Those must be banned as well.

Hello,

You must be a lawyer.

-- Posted by SWBG on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:15 PM

Not a lawyer, just smart enough to know that offering suggestions and opinions is in reality, offering legal advice.

If you had a medical condition, would you call Speakout and listen to folks offer their opinion? Not a good idea.

-- Posted by Hellomynameis on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:22 PM

It is not an easy task policing all the fat contributers, but someone has to do it. With a sufficient grant and plenty of low level employees to do the leg work, I think that I can handle the job. I'll turn my two room shack into a government office.

-- Posted by James Nall on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:25 PM

Hellomynameis,

~chuckle~ Your perspective...reminds me of... how I think an owner/landlord or an attorney would think.

If the tenant, chooses to embrace legal advice from an online Speakout (Opinion) forum...doubt a poster could be held accountable for their thoughts. (With a few of the post...do understand your word of caution, as I was thinking along the same lines.)

With that said, I saw SOME good advice being offered. Namely... communication, read your lease, check some reliable sources and if all else fails, call an attorney.

-- Posted by Deserae on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:25 PM

Scrap that idea, my roof may not pass inspection.

-- Posted by James Nall on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:28 PM

Hellomynameis

Not everyone can afford legal advice. In a case like this, the caller is asking for people's opinion because they are unsure what they can do. Let's just pretend that in this case, the caller could go to the city and fill out a complaint form that would be enforced by the city. It would be pointless to contact a lawyer and pay for an hour to find out that you can do something other than ask for legal advice.

No reason to jump on people just because they ask for opinions and people give them!

-- Posted by KoH_Cliff on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:29 PM

I find that funny..

Hellomynamis, I hardly think anyone here is practicing law on this forum. If a person wants someone's opinions, past experiences, etc...let them get it from where ever they choose. For example, I can give anyone here advice, if they want it, about something I have some knowledge about, which would be healthcare. Until I start prescribing medicines, or charging them for my sage wisdom...I am not practicing medicine or impersonating a Dr.

-- Posted by allen6177 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:34 PM

I posted Missouri's tenant/landlord laws per Jay Nixon in my link. I guess he should know something about the subject. LOL

-- Posted by conservababe on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:34 PM

To all who have read what I said before, please observe the following disclaimer:

"I, gehagge, am in no way responsible for any actions taken on behalf of the opinions that I have stated on this forum in regards to rental properties. Please act only on the advice of those who are qualified to handle these issues. Please ignore any resources that I have given reference to."

I probably should give a disclaimer on all advice/opinions that I will give on this forum. Just want to cover my tracks.

-- Posted by gehagge on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:35 PM

KoH_Cliff,

There you go, that is another good idea for the renter...check with the City (if it applies), as Cape has ordinances regarding yards/leases/vehicals etc.

-- Posted by Deserae on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:36 PM

-- Posted by Deserae on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 12:38 PM

OK, offer away! Just know that the best advice is to consult an attorney. Speakout would be the last place I would consult for legal advice, but that is just me.

Issue over. Call off the dogs.

The aforementioned poster was not removed because of posting a name. Rather, it came to our attention that someone was posting under a name intended to replicate an already active poster on semissourian.com. Semissourian.com staff is unable to monitor such "replica names" in advance, but when it does come to our attention, our policy is to remove the new poster.

Our sentiment is that many of you have invested your time in developing a "personality" in the comments section. While we are not obligated to remove other individuals who seek to "hijack" your online name, we do believe it is the right thing to do, when it comes to our attention.

IMO it is inappropriate behavior for a public forum.

As soon as pop turns his head, so I can use the chain saw, plan on cutting up the limbs on our place to use in his workshop's wood stove. I apologize for not refreshing before posting what a great day it is on here.

My suggestion is that we ignore the nasty comments and those who post them. Anyway, that's what I've been trying to do,and will re-double my efforts. Ignoring someone is a statement in itself.

gurusmom,

Yes...I agree, but somehow I do not understand why in the world the paper would not correct the behavior that was so crudely offered earlier to babe and myself.

I can hang on to my bloomers pretty well in a just about any debate...heck even managed to count to 10,415 before replying the reference of a "crazy broad".

There is ONE word, that just does NOT settle well with this "crazy broad"...and someone (two user names) managed to push that "HOT" button today.

-- Posted by Deserae on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 3:57 PM

Good grief, grow up Melange. How sheltered are you? I stopped getting *HOT* about those types of comments a long time ago. Besides, you may be reading more into it than is really there. Only one poster seen an acronym in it. You and the rest of us didn't notice it til you made an issue of it.

-- Posted by Snoops_Malone on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 4:05 PM

I noticed the acronym and I am sure others did as well.

-- Posted by BN1401 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 4:18 PM

Maybe you did, maybe you didn't. But Melange didn't notice it until it was pointed out by another poster. Seriously, the acronym may be there, but that may or may not have been the posters intentions, we don't know that for sure. Guessing or assuming it was the poster's intentions is just plain bigotry. If you noticed the acronym, you were looking for it or expecting it. It might be worth while taking a good look at yourself. I didn't notice the acronym until it was pointed out. Just because the acronym spells the word, doesn't mean that was it's purpose. Again, if you are seeing something there, then perhaps you best take a look at yourself.

-- Posted by Snoops_Malone on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 4:28 PM

I am sure that everyone noticed it...well, just about everyone. Maybe you "best" take a look at the definition of a bigot?

-- Posted by allen6177 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 4:32 PM

Actually, one of my duties was to proof all paperwork going out of my office and approve it before going to another agency or court so I automatically read very carefully. So maybe it was just me, but not for the reasons you infer.

Safe and feasible

I agree with James Nall. Not knowing the harbor that US ships sought haven in during a hurricane, I could not give more of an opinion than what James has already stated. True, it could be that the topography of certain harbors could afford some protection, but from every photo of a hurricane that struck a harbor, it would seem to me that there could be cases where your best chance of limited injury and damage would be at sea.

Now, that said. Thank you for being alarmed at the amount of damage that the neocon and globalists have done to the American economy by prostituting this nation to China and most of the rest of the world. We make nothing, we buy everything at outrageous gouging profits from low life importers and retail stores in the US who are selling us 30 cent an our labor products for prices at, or, way above what they were when they were made here by Americans.

It is greed. The greed is not exclusive to the Republican neocon and globalists, but they lead the way in the destruction of American jobs and our economy.

I truly believe that they do want America to fall, and then they will offer us plenty of $3 and $5 dollar jobs. They figure that at some point we will fight each other to get these low wage, no benefit jobs and be damn happy to have it. They long for the days of servants and company store and housing type jobs where they didn't pay the workers in cash, but in company "script" that could only be used to pay their outrageous prices in the company store, and for the tinder box "house" on their land. You couldn't take the scrpit to town to buy cheaper products, nor, could you exchange it for cash. The teens, 20's and 30's of the last century was the hey day for these greedy pigs. They are making a come back now, since they forced all our jobs to communist slave wage labor countries.

Did you know that the United States has a trade deficit with the Christmas Islands? How the hell that happened, I do not know, but that is just as shocking as American kids being 17th and 21st in the world in math and science. The Bush-Clinton education plan of making American kids feel good about themselves, getting sex education in middle school, and having high self esteem is working. It is working a little too well. Reality has not set in with them, nor, their parents. No one wants to look inward and see what is wrong with America's leadership and direction, they prefer to shout jingolistic, idiiotic slogans about how "Proud to be American", or, "These colors don'T run" crappola... pure crappola, which sound good, aren't true, and just prolong Americans dealing with our real problems.

When I tell the oalfs on here that we are going down hill fast, they say that I am an "America hater." I warned about the economy way before the housing and credit crisis. No one listened, because they were singig the Rush Limbaugh-Hannity tune. Mindless, ignorant people. Well, if this goes as far as I have said it would, with Americans being disarmed and rounded up for concentration and work camps, they will be the ones who will be going. Some will go willingly, thinking they are being real "Americans." Real Americans fought for our freedom. Real Americans do not go guietly into the night, without a fight. The state motto of New Hampshire, is "Live Free or Die." To some that is not a jingolistic slogan, but a way of life.

Yes, the term "broad" saddly has gone out of style. The most popular years for the term "Broad" was prior to the 1970's, at which point, the United States Marine Corps began to disuade Marines from referencing female Marines as "BAMS"

To me, and to most other Marines of that era, BAMS was not necessarily a derogatory term. Most of us used it as one would use WAVES, to denote female members of the Navy, or, WACS, to denote female members of the Army. I believe that the WAFS were female members of the Air Force. The Marines had no such special distinction for female Marines, so some Marine somewhere came up with the BAMS nickname for female Marines.

The term BAM stood for Broad A** Marines. Now, that may sound a bit unkind, but after repeated use, no one whom I knew really thought of a female Marine in that way. BAMS was just like saying WACS. Or, at least it was for me.

"Broad" is not a common term in my language usage.

I would have preferred Russia. I do think that they, China and India may settle this Neocon, Globalist, fascist takeover of America for us, or, at least cut them down to were we can merely do mop up.

Since you like to sing, join me in the Cuban national anthem.

Cuba National Anthem Lyrics

Cuba

Al combate corred bayameses

que la patria os comtempla orgullosa

no temais una muerte gloriosa

que morir por la patria es vivir

En cadenas vivir es morir

en afrenta y oprobio sumidos

del clarin escuchad el sonido

a las armas valientes corred.

English:

Hasten to battle, men of Bayamo,

For the homeland looks proudly to you.

You do not fear a glorious death,

Because to die for the country is to live.

To live in chains

Is to live in dishonour and ignominy.

Hear the clarion call,

Hasten, brave ones, to battle!

-- Posted by Brill on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 4:57 PM

Not a bad anthem, at that.

Now, if you just subsitute a couple of words, the Cuban national anthem fits my political philosophy.

.................................

Hasten to battle, men of the OZARKS,

For the MISSOURI looks proudly to you.

You do not fear a glorious death,

Because to die for the country is to live.

To live in chains

Is to live in dishonour and ignominy.

Hear the clarion call,

Hasten, brave ones, to battle!

.........................

Yep, not a bad tune.

PROFIT FOR US

"I could find data for, Missouri took in $1.32 in federal spending for every $1 we paid in federal taxes. Those federal dollars are being spent on construction here and going into the local economy at the expense of states like New Jersey, Nevada and California"

Now it all makes sense. We are screwing other states out of a fair return on their dollar infested in the US government, so, that should make us feel better. I see.

Now, from where does that .32 cents overpayment come? Is that overpayment to Missouri coming from our out of control borrowing from Communist China? What do you think that administrative costs are for Missourians to pay the US government and for them to send OUR money back to us in Missouri, but instead of us selecting how to spend OUR money in OUR state, they do the feds do the selecting? Just how much does that cost? Is it done for now cost? Do these federal employees work for free? Are you saying that it is better for the feds to decide how OUR money is spent than it is for Missourians to decide?

God, some Americans are so damn stupid. We are truly screwed.

-- Posted by Brill on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 5:13 PM

For a term not used in ones language, you have used it.

My theory is you find a need for attention or a need to sound important.

You are a hater, proof made by you rants. I wish if you are going to make those rants, do it under your word processor, to yourself. That way it it doesn't ruin the mood of others with your foolishness.

I REALLY would like for you to show up Friday at Grecian for lunch. PLEASE

-- Posted by Deserae on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 5:19 PM

Any port in a storm.

Remember a few years ago, a US surveillance aircraft was flying near the coast of China, when the Chinese sent out military aircraft to extend an invitation to land at a Chinese military airfield?

That was really thoughtful. It was so darn considerate for the Communist Chinese to put out the welcome to our aircrew to just "drop in and set a spell".

Normally, it would have cost these Americans thousands of dollars to pay for airfare, lodging and food for a trip to China, but the Chinese, our friends and "trading" partners, put out the welcome mat for them.

Maybe, I have the Chinese figured out wrong. I should give them the benefit of the doubt.

They are buying the most sophisticated weapons in the world, including aircraft, submarines, and cruise missiles from Russia which are 15 years ahead of our own. I am sure that they only want these weapons to air shows and sea exercises for Americans and European tourists, and not for some kind of expanded territoral control of the Pacific region.

You all are responsible for this great Communist Chinese leap forward. How many of you gave, or, received boxes of Valentine Cholocates made in China.

Turn the box over and take a look.

Canadian troops to be used in US.

"Canada, U.S. agree to use each other's troops in civil emergencies

David Pugliese , Canwest News Service

Published: Friday, February 22, 2008

Canada and the U.S. have signed an agreement that paves the way for the militaries from either nation to send troops across each other's borders during an emergency, but some are questioning why the Harper government has kept silent on the deal.

Neither the Canadian government nor the Canadian Forces announced the new agreement, which was signed Feb. 14 in Texas.

The U.S. military's Northern Command, however, publicized the agreement with a statement outlining how its top officer, Gen. Gene Renuart, and Canadian Lt.-Gen. Marc Dumais, head of Canada Command, signed the plan, which allows the military from one nation to support the armed forces of the other nation during a civil emergency.

American soldiers arrive on board the HMCS TORONTO as part of a training exercise in carrying out a NATO presence patrol in the Indian Ocean near Somalia. A new agreement between the U.S. and Canadian militaries has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

Handout

The new agreement has been greeted with suspicion by the left wing in Canada and the right wing in the U.S.

The left-leaning Council of Canadians, which is campaigning against what it calls the increasing integration of the U.S. and Canadian militaries, is raising concerns about the deal.

"It's kind of a trend when it comes to issues of Canada-U.S. relations and contentious issues like military integration. We see that this government is reluctant to disclose information to Canadians that is readily available on American and Mexican websites," said Stuart Trew, a researcher with the Council of Canadians.

Trew said there is potential for the agreement to militarize civilian responses to emergency incidents. He noted that work is also underway for the two nations to put in place a joint plan to protect common infrastructure such as roadways and oil pipelines."

http://www.canada.com/topics/news/story....

Lord, I love the Canadians, but if they attempt to bring about martial law, or, be used here in a so-called "emergency," they need to bring along their own body bag and toe tag, because when loyal Americans respond to this neocon, globalist plan to bring down America, I ain't paying to ship their bodies back to Canada.

Reminds me, though...way back when my dad was in the Army, and I (as the oldest daughter) had to do the ironing...His ugly-colored Army-approved boxer shorts were cotton and had to be ironed! As a teenager, I felt that having to iron those was above and beyond the call of a daughter's duties...

Where did Melange go?

-- Posted by Aggiefan/Twiggy on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:48 PM

Babe, FYI, I've got boxers with Reagan all over it.:):) Guess I'm a conservative too, huh?

-- Posted by Aggiefan/Twiggy on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:51 PM

ROFL Babe.

I might have a few that fit that description...I'd say I'm a fan of "exotic" underwear. LOL. Granted...I'd have bet money that I'd never wear the ones I've had too lately. Dang baby belly makes all of them try to roll down...or you feel like they just might cut you in half...Definitely narrows the selection!

Hello--

I'm glad you get to wear comfy underwear. I think it'd make it easier to aim your gun...er..Rifle. LOL

-- Posted by SuperBethie21 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:54 PM

Aggie...yes sir...you ARE a conservative. LOL

-- Posted by conservababe on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:55 PM

Babe,

Let's just say no Donkeys and under gear is dependent on type of pants. lol

Aggie,

Can't make it, sorry.

-- Posted by Pups on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 8:57 PM

Sorry you can't make it Pups. We will do it again sometime when you can.

Bethie we will be there around 6:00, so do come by and anyone else that wants to come by.

-- Posted by Aggiefan/Twiggy on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:00 PM

LOL Babe--

I have been known to if the occasion calls for it.

O.O

LOL

-- Posted by SuperBethie21 on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:03 PM

Just curious, does this line of conversation constitute 'girl chat'?? LMAO

Aggie,

Think Melange is taking a break from being unjustly "beat up" earlier. But, I'm just guessing. And for the record, the comment directed at Babe and Melange was rude and uncalled for. Just my opinion on it.

-- Posted by Pups on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:07 PM

Twiggy and I both agree on that, it was rude.

-- Posted by Aggiefan/Twiggy on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:10 PM

Aggie,

Not that you would say it, but have the impression that if you ever used that particular term, Twiggy would dismantle your 'gun' and served it to you on a plater. LOL

-- Posted by Pups on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:14 PM

Hey Hello,

What you implying??? LOL (since I used the TMI)

-- Posted by Pups on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:16 PM

Delightful that the comments have gone back to some fun and laughs, even if not EVEN on Speak Out topics!

babe--Guess I'm in the middle of the political panties. NOT that I often discuss my underwear. ~blush~

Bethie & PUPS--I do believe my mother heavily starched everything she got her hands on! It never occured to me to think about how starched BVD's might feel. Well heck, back then we weren't aware of anatomy until about the time we got married.

Aggie--Can't make it tomorrow evening...Have to watch the debate. Yes, sigh, I do watch them all...The good, the bad and the ugly. Have fun, & one margarita for me!

-- Posted by gurusmom on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 9:20 PM

Not referring to you Pups! Mainly referencing the yahoos posting earlier today.

Did no one die in Iraq today?

No news on TV, on the radio, or, in most American newspapers, that keeps the gulible, ingornant American people thinking nothing is going on in Iraq, but the war against the Iraqi people and the deaths of Americans go on in an unjust, undeclared, unprovoked, unconstitutional war.

"Ansar as-Sunnah Resistance group releases video showing execution of 12 Nepalis working for US forces in Iraq."

"In a dispatch posted at 10:10am Makkah time Monday morning, Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Jaysh Ansar as-Sunnah group, which is engaged in fighting US forces in northern Iraq, broadcast a video on the Internet Monday showing the execution of 12 Nepalis who had been working for the US occupation in Iraq."

"Contractor and four companions shot to death south of Kirkuk at noon Monday.

In a dispatch posted at 6:40pm Baghdad time Monday evening, the Yaqen News Agency reported that armed men killed a transport contractor working for the Iraqi puppet regime troops near ar-Rashad to the south of Kirkuk at noon on Monday.

Yaqen reported Major Nuhad az-Zahawi of the Kirkuk puppet regime puppet police as saying that unknown armed men intercepted the car carrying Nu'man ash-Shahir and three companions after they came out of the ar-Rashad area. They were sprayed with bullets, killing them all on the spot. The attackers left the scene."

Xinhua reported a source in the Samarra' puppet police as saying that a man in an explosives-packed wheel chair and wearing an explosive belt showed up in the Operations Headquarters in Samarra' and asked to meet Staff Brigadier General 'Abd al-Jabbar Rabi' as-Safi, the Deputy Commander of Operations in Samarra'. When the man got near as-Safi, he blew himself up, killing the Deputy Commander on the spot. Two other officers who were with the general were also killed and eight other troops wounded, some of them severely.

The source said that at the time of the attack, General as-Safi was in the Information Room where he would meet citizens and hear their grievances. The explosion was so powerful that it completely destroyed the room."

"Zionist newspaper reports death of "Israeli" soldier in Baghdad landmine explosion.

Making death threats hellomynameis? I think that is a criminal charge for that. I'll be sure to report you for that one! SNARK!!!!!!

-- Posted by Just_Me_and_My_Opinion. on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:25 PM

A natural death from poor health and old age is not a death threat. I take that back, maybe you can report God for that one!

-- Posted by Hellomynameis on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:28 PM

More news from the war that TV forgot to mention. Too much Obama, Hillary, McCain gossip and minute, protracted detail to feed to the American people to keep their minds off the war.

The war does go on, and more Americans are dying. Of course, if you prohibit news coverage of dead Americans arriving at Dover AFB, and keep news of the war away from the American people, they will naturally think that the "surge" is working. Maybe more dummies will post how well the Iraqi's like us, and other such nonsense. Remember, only 3-5% of the attacks on Americans are coming from what is called Al-Qia-dah, or, Al-CIA-DAH, as some are calling it. So, that means, 95% or more of the attacks on Americans are coming from good ole home grown Iraqis. That should be our hint to leave them alone, and go home. The Bush cabal has tortured, killed and screwed up that country beyond all hope. Time to leave and let the Iraqi's sort it out. Next time, we need to stay home and mind our own business.

-- Posted by Mr_Fruity_Flapjacks on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:33 PM

Newsflash! We all will die at some point in our lives. It is a fact that if you are in the last 15-20% of your life (at least statistically) and you are overweight in poor health, you will more than likely die prematurely.

Just a fact, so take your innuendos of a death threat and go somewhere else.

-- Posted by Hellomynameis on Mon, Feb 25, 2008, at 10:34 PM

What? I guess you'd rather have me slap you on the ***? Yeah, I heard that too.

A "fabulous" cut and paste to conclude this evenings postings. I particularly fond the use of the word "penetration" of the White House to be quite amusing.

"The House Judiciary Committee voted against House resolution 136, on March 16, 2005 that would have directed the Attorney General and the Secretary of Homeland Security to transmit documents in the possession of officials to the House of Representatives. These documents related to the security investigations and background checks involved in granting access to the White House of James D. Guckert (also known as Jeff Gannon). The documents were to be transmitted no later than 14 days after the date of the adoption of the resolution.

During the Committee meeting Democratic Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee claimed that Gannon had engaged in "a penetration of the White House, maybe a security breach, and I do not believe it can be answered with self-investigation. [22] [23]

Chairman Sensenbrenner pointed out that a letter dated March 7, 2005, from the Secret Service stated, "Please be advised that our Office of Protective Operations has looked into this matter and has determined that there was no deviation from Secret Service standards and procedures as your letter suggests," [22] The letter did not detail what the standards were.

Guckert, who wants to be addressed as Jeff Gannon, wrote in his blog, "I hope this vote will put these issues to rest and allow me to return to my work as a journalist." In his recently published book [2], Gannon refutes any suggestion of a role at the White House of anything other than an independent conservative journalist.

Democratic Representatives John Conyers of Michigan and Louise Slaughter of New York had submitted similar requests under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), on February 15, 2005. The Louise Slaughter request was answered by the Department of Homeland Security with Secret Service records of Mr. Gannon's check in and out times at the White House.[24] The Secret Service Records appear to show that Gannon checked in, but never checked out on many occasions, and visited the White House on several days during which no press conference or other press events were held.[25] In a 2007 interview, Gannon stated that he has never spent the night at the White House.[8]"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Gannon

Some people, including the mother of Johnny Gosh, a sex-slave kidnap victim from Des Moines, believe that Jeff Gannon, is actually, Johnny Gosh who alledgedly was kidnapped in a covert CIA Child Sex program detailed in "The Franklin Cover-Up. The children were used to corrupt, and blackmail members of congress, the judiciary, and various corporation heads.

http://www.thelawparty.com/FranklinCover...

You may watch a video of a British news orginization into the Franklin Cover-UP. It was scheduled to air in March of 1994 on the Discovery Channel. Members of Congress put pressure on them to drop the program, even after it was listed in the TV section of newspapers and the TV Guide.

You may watch a mediocre version of the film which was supposed to be completely destroyed, but a working copy did survive.

http://www.thelawparty.org/Franklincover...

This child sex slave scandal took place during the Reagan and Bush 41 years. According to testimony from some of the children involved, Bush 41 has shown a preferance for teenage black boys.

YOU do not conclude anything with your posts that make a person's eyes glaze over after the first paragraph.
