Setting the record straight

To the editor:

As a concerned resident of this community and having my parents employed by the city and the school district, I frequently read Speak Out to see what is being said about their job areas. I have found that certain residents of this community do not have all the facts in relation to the areas of their complaints.

One person suggested that students should pay for parking at the high school instead of having to pay for involvement in school activities. As a student at Central High School, I can verify that we pay for parking.

Others have decided that the city is wasting money by allowing the police officers to drive their cars home. My father was a Cape Girardeau police officer for 10 years. I can once again verify that this is done so that people know a police officer lives in the area and possibly decrease the area crime.

I believe people should have the right to voice their opinion in Speak Out, but I also believe individuals should acquire all necessary facts before embarrassing themselves with incorrect information. They should also have the nerve to put their name to it.
