Former Anna public defender pleads guilty to felony

Former public defender Patrick Cox of Anna, Ill. plead guilty to a Class 2 felony charge of theft Wednesday. According to a Union County State's Attorney news release, Cox admitted to taking between $10,000 to $100,000 that he had held in a trust for clients and others, including a juvenile, between Jan. 2, 2005 and June 26, 2007. A sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 4 at 1 p.m. The former attorney could face three to seven years in the Illinois Department of Corrections, and/or a fine of $25,000. He is eligible for an alternative of 48 months of probation. According to the release, the state will seek restitution of about $58,000.

petty thieves to begin with-- so who cares

if they throw the book at him.
