For Iva A. Wilkinson of Scott City, a 90th birthday wish came true. Six months before her Dec. 23 birthday, she said she wanted a motorcyle ride. Her family thought the request surprising because Wilkinson had never even learned how to ride a bicycle.
But in November, Wilkinson fell while working in her yard, resulting in an injury that would take time to heal. The ride was put on hold.
Fast recovery combined with a great Jan. 11 forecast prompted the family to surprise Wilkinson with the motorcycle ride a little late.
The family took her on a trip disguised as a drive in the car to get out of the house. Once she spotted her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the meeting place, she caught on that there was more to the outing than a drive to get out of the house. At the sight of the bright red motorcyle, Wilkinson asked, "Is this for me?"
After the ride, Wilkinson said it was smooth as riding in a car.
To her driver, Louis Podgornik, she said, "Well, I am going to live to be 100 and if you're still around I want you to take me for another ride."
