Local swimmers do not qualify for today's finals

Jackson sophomore Cailin McGinnis and Notre Dame junior Brittany Menz earned the top finishes among local competitors at the state girls swimming meet in St. Peters on Friday.

McGinnis took 18th in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing in 1 minute, 4.75 seconds.

Menz took 18th in the 100 freestyle in 56.07. Central junior Annie Wolpers was 34th in the event, swimming a 57.64.

In the 100 butterfly, McGinnis was 23rd, finishing in 1:02.48.

In the 200 freestyle, Menz was 23rd in 2:02.75, while Jackson freshman Allison Hobbs was 32nd in the event (2:04.08).

Hobbs added a 27th-place finish in the 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:30.64.

In the 50 freestyle, Wolpers took 34th in 26.27.

In relay events, Central swam the 23rd-fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay, clocking a 1:47.83. Wolpers, sophomore Mary Catherine Ford, junior Jennifer Willett and junior Jessie Baker swam for the Tigers. Notre Dame was 32nd, finishing in 1:49.44. Sophomore Lauren Castleman, sophomore Audrey Glover, junior Abigail Messmer and Menz swam for the Bulldogs.

In the 400 freestyle relay, Central was 33rd in 3:59.98. Ford, Willett, Baker and Wolpers swam for the Tigers. Notre Dame was 36th in 4:02.73. Menz, junior Jenny Brant, Messmer and Castleman swam for the Bulldogs.
