On Aug. 11, 1946, he married Gladys Ella Keller at Zion Lutheran Church. The Lord blessed their marital union with the gifts of four children: Thomas Calvin (Susan) Nebel of Clarksville, Tenn.; Mary Ellen (Larry) Urhahn of Benton; Christine Frances (Charles) Cott of Columbia, Mo.; Robert Walter (Virginia) Nebel of Clarksville, Tenn.; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren. He is survived by a brother, Fred Nebel, and a sister, Anna Marie Daume, both of Cape Girardeau.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Irma.
Mr. Nebel was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chaffee, Mo. He retired from Missouri Utilities (now Ameren) after 41 years of service. Mr. Nebel served on the USS Alabama in Admiral Halsey's Third Fleet during World War II, where he earned 18 battle stars. He was an avid outdoorsman and shared this love with his family.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Ford and Sons Funeral Home on Mount Auburn Road. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church in Gordonville, with the Rev. Wayne Schwiesow officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Chaffee or Saxony Lutheran High School in Jackson.
