David Eggert, 92, formerly of California, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2008, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He lived in Cape Girardeau for 10 years.
He was born Aug. 5, 1915, in Oregon City, Ore., the son of Alexander and Emma (Domries) Eggert. He and Lavina (Collier) Cargle Eggert were married on Oct. 23, 2000 in Las Vegas.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a T4 mess sergeant.
Mr. Eggert was a carpenter for many years in southern California.
He was a member of Lynwood Baptist Church and former member and trustee at Bethel Baptist Church in Anaheim, Calif.
He was a member of Carpenters Local 803 and the Good Sam Club, VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau and a former member of VFW Post in Redmond, Ore.
He is survived by his wife, Lavina Cargle Eggert of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Cathy Stitz and husband, Dan, of Cape Girardeau, Georgia Ann Tuttle and husband, George, of Camarillo, Calif.; a stepdaughter, Charlene Hurlburt and husband, Jim, of Alexandria, Va.; two stepsons, Michael Cargle and wife, Diana, of Dexter, Mo., Jeffrey Cargle and wife, Susan, of Miamisburg, Ohio; a brother, Leonard Eggert of Anaheim, Calif.; and eight grandchildren; Jennifer and Cristi Stitz, Brent and Brooke Tuttle, Trisha Hulburt, Jeremiah, Nathan and Katie Cargle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Edith Davis and Adeline Schauer.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home, with the Rev. Gary Belcher officiating.
Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo., with full military honors by the Missouri Honors Team.
