Leopold debuts with 79-48 victory

The Leopold boys basketball team opened its season Tuesday night with a 31-point road victory, defeating Meadow Heights 79-48.

Leading 36-32 at halftime, Leopold broke the game open with a 19-0 scoring advantage in the third quarter.

Darren VanGennip scored a game-high 26 points for the Wildcats, while Dustin Thiele had 15, Larry Nussbaum had 11 and Wade Wiseman had 10.

Sophomore Dustin Hubler scored a team-high 11 points for Meadow Heights before he lost several teeth in a collision early in the second quarter.

* Central's eighth-grade boys basketball team lost a pair of games at Charleston. The A team lost 34-22, with Charles Robinson scoring eight points for Central. The B team lost 45-21, with Ethan Knott, 13 points, leading the way for Central.

* Oran's JV defeated Notre Dame's freshman 24-23 in the Delta JV tournament.
