ND boys, Central girls win SEMO meet

Logan Davis set a course record to help the Notre Dame boys claim the SEMO Conference title by 42 points over runner-up Central on Thursday in Benton, Mo.

Davis finished in 16 minutes, 9 seconds to edge second-place finisher Travis Blalock of Poplar Bluff by 8 seconds. Blalock was the lone competitor for the Poplar Bluff boys and his placement did not count in totaling team points. Cody Kern of Kelly placed third. Notre Dame claimed the next four spots to accumulate 19 points for its team total. Wynn McClellan finished fourth, followed by Neil Kanneberg, Dillon Klaffner and Ben Beussink.

Central placed second with 61 points, Jackson was third with 70 and Kelly had 83.

Central's Brittany Moreland and Veronica Schabbing finished one-two in the girls race as the Tigers collected the minimum 15 points to post a 41-point victory over Jackson (56). Notre Dame (58) placed third.

Moreland completed the course in 18:43, finishing 7 seconds ahead of Schabbing. Poplar Bluff's Hannah Blalock placed third.

Central's team score was completed by Tiffany Mead (fourth), Mary Dohogne (fifth) and Rachel Burchyett (eighth).

Notre Dame's Ryan Johnson (17:26) won the JV boys race, leading the Bulldogs to the title. Central won the JV girls race, led by first-place finisher Jessica Hahn.

Ashlea Soemo helped lead the Indians (14-6-1) to a home victory over with 11 kills, 14 digs and seven blocks while Kaitlin James had 11 kills.

Chelsea Olson had 29 assists, 17 digs and two blocks and Chelsea Dale added seven kills, 11 digs, and eight blocks. Scott City's Brittany Licare had 24 digs and two saves while Brooke Simpson had three aces, 20 digs and 15 kills.

Kristin Yetman added 15 digs, 30 assists and four saves.

Shannon Brennan led the Bulldogs (9-9-2) with four kills and four assists. Emily Matthews added three kills while Chelsea Bradshaw recorded 12 digs.

Shannon Brennan had seven kills and Paige Schumer chipped in six assists for the Bulldogs (10-9-2) on Wednesday.

JV -- Notre Dame won in two games.

MVC Tournament

Meadow Heights and Leopold swept their way into the championship game of the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament.

Meadow Heights defeated Oak Ridge 25-13, 25-16 to reach the final, while Leopold rolled past Zalma 25-8, 25-12. The teams play for the title tonight.

Zalma defeated Marquand 25-14, 27-25 earlier in the day.

Zalma plays Oak Ridge in the third-place game tonight.

Jessica Abner led the Cubs (24-2-1) with nine kills while Sherilyn Long had 13 digs and Codie Lancaster recorded 28 assists.

Andrew Etzold recorded three goals to lead the Crusaders (10-1-1). Garrett Fritsche added two goals and one assist.

Ben Courtois had one goal and one assist for Saxony,

Bryant Steffans recorded the shutout in goal.

Mark Himmelberg scored the first goal with an assist from Brock Dirnberger.

Ty Williams and Joda Holloway also scored for the Bulldogs.

Eagle Ridge 3,St. Louis Christian 0

Daniel Cohen netted two goals as Eagle Ridge advanced to the SLMCAA finals.

Mary-Kate Galemmo had the other goal, and Aaron Margrabe had an assist.

Ethan Grant made five saves for the shutout.

Eagle Ridge (11-1-1) faces Collinsville in tonight's championship game.
