Anna-Jonesboro hands home loss to ND girls

Friday, January 9, 2004

Notre Dame's girls basketball team fell behind by 12 points at halftime and could not close the gap in a 57-52 loss against state-ranked Anna-Jonesboro (Ill.) at home on Thursday night.

The Bulldogs (6-4) trailed 36-24 at halftime before rallying in the second half. Anna-Jonesboro scored only 21 points in the second half.

"We played a zone defense in the second half, which they had a little trouble to begin with," Notre Dame coach Jerry Grim said.

Another key to Notre Dame's comeback was its ability to contain Anna-Jonesboro star Kassie Drew. Drew finished with 30 points, including eight 3-pointers, but had only nine points in the second half.

Sommer McCauley led Notre Dame with 19 points and Laura Weissmueller had 10.
