Letter to the Editor

Roethemeyer quick to offer aid

To the editor:I am usually not one to write letters, but every once in a while, you witness something that is truly refreshing that you just must tell someone about.

I recently had the opportunity to work with the Rev. Sam Roethemeyer. Our department responded to a call in which the family needed someone to be there for them beyond our capabilities. I thought about what I would do, and the first name that came to mind was Sam Roethemeyer. I made the call and spoke to him about this matter and asked for his assistance. Without hesitation, Roethemeyer dropped what he was doing and immediately came to my location and began to comfort the family.

I was truly amazed and the pastor's timely and unselfish response to a need of a member of our community. It is because of people like Roethemeyer that I can stand proud to be a member of the Jackson Police Department and of this community.

I find it ironic that, while Roethemeyer and the police department have two totally different responsibilities to the community, we share much of the same duties, just in different capacities.

I would like to thank Sam Roethemeyer for his work and to say it is an honor to protect and serve with him.
