Activities charge would be unfair to some students

To the editor:

I would like to hit on the concept of our children having to pay to participate in extracurricular activities. This would be very unfair to low-income students. If our children can't afford to pay for their lunches, how can they afford to pay for sports? This is going to impact our low-income students achievement, because sports is what keeps a lot of our students interested in academics. This may sound unreal, but it's true. A lot of our student play sports as a way of feeling like they matter, and if we take this away, what is left?

Our administrators need to look at the picture as a whole and stop hurting the little people. Reduce some of the administrative pay to help with the budget. Not once have I heard through all of this that an administrator was willing to take a pay cut. Why not consider this and show Cape Girardeau they do care about our students rather than just a paycheck.
