'Nutcracker' is coming

For many people, it just wouldn't be the holiday season without a performance of "The Nutcracker," the magical ballet with so much familiar music. It is particularly popular with children who identify with the characters and the toys on stage.

This year, the Cape Girardeau area has two outstanding versions of the ballet. Performances by the Moscow Ballet have already been held. This coming Friday and Saturday, there will be three performances by the Minnesota Ballet at Academic Auditorium on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University.

The Minnesota Ballet's performances -- 7:30 p.m. Friday and noon and 4 p.m. Saturday -- will feature 70 young dancers from this area.

There are still plenty of good seats available, but don't wait until the last minute. Call 651-2265 for more information.

And remember: Proceeds from these performances will go to the Community Counseling Center Foundation to provide financial support for many programs that are important to our area. This is a great way to enjoy a wonderful ballet and help a worthwhile community organization.
