Renters with pets may take better care of property

To the editor:

I have kept my mouth shut just as long as I can. What is the problem landlords have with little house dogs when they rent their property? They get a deposit. What is that for?

Dogs can't knock holes in walls, break windows, cuss the neighbors, throw food on walls or scuff the floors.

I rent, and I have a little dog. He is housebroken. He gets bathed. He knows what "no" means when you tell him. My landlord knows I have a dog.

Did landlords ever stop to think that if they permitted little pets they might get renters who would go out of their way to take care of their property like I do?

I have lived here nine years. My dog Buff is part of my family. If he isn't welcome, neither am I. I would not give Buff up just to rent a house. I would rather buy a house before I let my dog go.
