Michael Jackson either didn't get or ignored advice

To the editor:

Bartenders routinely refuse to serve drinkers who have reached their limit. Intelligent drinkers bite the bullet, follow the bartender's sage advice and go home. Stupid ones head for the next bar.

Out of all the plastic surgeons with whom Michael Jackson presumably conferred prior to each of the many procedures that gradually converted him from the good-looking kid he once was into the grotesque he now is, was there none who had the guts, not to mention the humanity, to say to him, "Michael, take a good look in the mirror. Don't you think you've done enough to yourself? Just let it go."

Out of all the advisors, managers and retainers with whom wealth people like Jackson surround themselves, was there none who had the nerve to say to him, "Michael, if you must interact with children, can you not do so in a more public setting than your own bedroom? You may be on the up-and-up, but there are people rotting in prisons for nothing more than the mere appearance of wrongdoing. Just let it go."

Probably such advice indeed was given and ignored.DONN S. MILLER
