Pirates provide 100th victory for their coach with easy win

BONNE TERRE, Mo. -- Vicki Lohmann picked up her 100th win as Perryville's girls basketball coach in a 66-47 win over North County on Monday night in the team's season opener.

Perryville senior April Lorenz overcame early foul trouble to lead all scorers with 25 points. Kate Lowry and Krista Miesner each had 12 points apiece for Perryville.

Scott City used a strong defensive performance in the second half to win on the road in its season opener.

The Rams led 29-28 at halftime, but a 13-7 scoring advantage in the third quarter gave them the advantage they needed. Amanda Raines led Scott City with 17 points and Jessica Warren had 15. Angie Laxton added eight points and eight rebounds and Alicia Obermann led the Rams with six assists.

Woodland kept the score close until late in the game before letting the margin widen in a home loss to open the season.

A young Cardinal team was led by freshman Courtney Glastetter who had 14 points. Casey Brimmer and Sasha Hutson had nine apiece for Woodland.

Notre Dame JV Tournament

Central's boys advanced to the second round of the Notre Dame JV Tournament with a 57-40 victory over host Notre Dame. Xavier Delph led Central (1-0) with 10 points.

Central will face the Sikeston-Farmington winner at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Central won its opener in the Central JV Tournament.

The Tigers were led by Paige Rothenberger's 11 points. In other games Jackson beat Dexter 55-27, Farmington beat Notre Dame 32-24 and Poplar Bluff beat Sikeston 50-49.

EIGHTH GRADE BOYS' BASKETBALL

Central 45, Sikeston 20

Ty Williams and Derek Walker had 10 points apiece to lead Central to a road win in its season opener.
