Thursday, August 23, 2007

Cape Girardeau firefighters responded to a fire shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday at Dana Corp., 2071 Corporate Circle.
(Fred Lynch)
Firefighters responded to smoke billowing from the rooftop at the Dana Corporation at 2071 Corporate Circle shortly after 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Five firetrucks and one ambulance arrived and quickly got the fire under control. About 50 employees had been in the building when the alarm in an automated department sounded, and they were quickly evacuated, said Max Dunlap, plant manager.

There were no injuries, and the damage was minimal, Dunlap said.

The fire started from one of the ovens overheating, said Dunlap.

Since this place has put so many families in a financial bind by sending it to Mexico, they should have just let the place burn to the ground. If the mexicans want it they can come sift through the ashes.

Fires are common in that plant. Do you know that the plant has a large outdoor tank farm with tanks of liquid nitrogen, propane, and methanol?
