Letter to the Editor

Public dialogue on monuments is important

To the editor:Jon Rust's piece in Wednesday's paper was well-written and to the point. I think it is important that those who cast dissenting opinions on any subject are allowed to have their say without fear of being labeled. Once someone is labeled, no thought is given as to why someone has a particular view or opinion. The merits of their position are totally ignored in favor of an easier, less intellectual way of debating.

I have no strong feelings as to where the veterans monuments should be -- only that it is important that we honor those who have sacrificed for our way of life. It appears that today's meeting will start an important public dialogue as to how this community honors our veterans.
