Disney would have been impressed

To the editor:Nobody likes a braggart. So please forgive me as I gush about my niece, Katherine Rollins, and the entire cast and crew of "Beauty and the Beast," Disney's full-length Broadway musical presented last weekend at Central Junior High School. Speaking as one thoroughly entertained audience member, I believe Roy Disney himself would have been impressed by the phenomenal performances of these young men and women. They were expertly directed and well-rehearsed, and their acting and comedic timing were spot-on.

Although I've never met him, it's evident that Mike Dumey, director/teacher extraordinaire, is a talented and dedicated mentor, and I'm guessing he made the experience of being in this production (and of getting to wear those stunning costumes) one that these students and their parents won't soon forget. I'd rate this performance at college-level or better -- even if I wasn't related to Belle. I was also touched by Mr. Dumey's gracious words about the collective talents and work of everyone else, with not a single mention about his own efforts. May I say, Mr. Dumey, you rock.

At a time when people are inundated daily with bad news and stories about teens gone bad, this performance was not only refreshing, but a great reminder of how awesome our kids can be when given the opportunity and support. Kudos to all involved, and thanks for blessing so many of us with your time and talents.
