Crackdown on sex offenders

To the editor:Sex offenders and child predators continue to pose a threat to the safety of Missourians. However, with new legislation and programs being implemented annually, the state has become one of the nation's leaders in combating these horrific crimes.

Gov. Matt Blunt has signed into legislation many bills that attack such malicious forms of crime. Such legislation includes allowing individual county law enforcement the ability to post registered sex offenders' names, addresses and photographs.

More recently, the governor has invested in a state-of-the-art global positioning satellite technology that would track paroled offenders and will eventually be used statewide to protect Missouri's children from sexual predators. Providing a safe environment for our children continues to be a priority of the state. As technology advances, so does our ability to create heightened preparedness and public safety practices.
