News should focus on heroic action

To the editor:Regarding the tragedy at Virginia Tech: The news programs seem to be focused on how the university mishandled the crisis. This type of reporting always drives me nuts, or at least to the medicine cabinet for an antacid. The culprit here is the shooter. No public institution can protect the public from a lunatic.

There's a poignant in story in all of this that few have picked up on. It's the story of professor Liviu Librescu, a Holocaust survivor. Over the years he no doubt wondered why he survived when so many around him did not. He got his answer on National Holocaust Day 2007. During the siege he held the door of his classroom closed while his students escaped through the windows. This heroic action cost him his life.

I sure hope to hear more about him and less about infinite list of "what if" regarding the university administration.
