Performing arts lineup

The list of musical, dance and theatrical performances scheduled for the first season at Southeast Missouri State University's new River Campus continues to grow. Newest on the list is STOMP, a percussion group that uses everyday items to make uncommon sounds.

Some professors will begin moving into the School for the Visual and Performing Arts next month. The Donald C. Bedell Performance Hall is scheduled to open in the fall.

Among the performances already booked are "Swan Lake" by the St. Petersburg Ballet, the Shaolin Warriors' martial arts show, the American Indian Dance Theatre, "Mark Train Tonight!" featuring Hal Holbrook and the St. Louis Symphony.

Also scheduled are the comedy "Late Night Catechism" and "Ring of Fire -- The Music of the Man in Black," a show based on the music of the late Johnny Cash.

These are in addition to the performances that will be presented by the school itself. A sense of anticipation is starting to build. The sound of thunderous applause on opening night is just around the corner.
