Tigers sweep season-opening meet

Central senior Matt Willingham cleared the bar at 14 feet during the pole vault competition Tuesday at the Central Junior High track. Willingham won the event, clearing 14 feet, 6 inches. (Kit Doyle)

The Central track and field teams swept a three-team meet with Notre Dame and Dexter on Tuesday at Central Junior High.

The boys finished with 114 points, Notre Dame was second (57) and Dexter was third (12).

Tyler Terry swept the long jump and triple jump and ran on two winning relays for the Tigers. Central won all four relays.

Notre Dame's Logan Davis won the 1,600 and 3,200 meters, setting the school record in the latter.

Central's girls finished with 107 points, Dexter followed with 41 and Notre Dame had 33.

Brittany Moreland and Sadie Pittman brought home two wins apiece for the Tigers. Moreland won the 800 and 1,600, and Pittman won the 100 and triple jump.

Haley Bohnert won the 200 for Notre Dame.

Central picked up its first win in a home game against first-year program Kennett.

Jenna Matthews, Sarah Uptmor, Haley Pilsner, Heather Deisher and Danielle Marquart scored first-half goals for the Tigers (1-1). Marquart and Allison Billmeyer scored in the second half, which was played by the junior varsity.

Perryville 3, Poplar Bluff 0

Chelsey Marr scored twice for Perryville in a road win.

Emily Hanquist added the other goal for the Pirates (1-0). Chastity Marr made eight saves for the shutout.

Hanquist, Alicia Kueker and Alyssa Bauwens had assists.

JV -- Perryville won 4-0.

T.J. Smith led Jackson to a home win in a three-team match at Kimbeland Country Club.

Smith was medalist with a 38. Brett Slaten led the Bulldogs with a 41, and Tim Simmons had the low score for the Tigers with a 42.

Ste. Genevieve broke open a one-run game with a 10-run third inning and went on to a five-inning road victory.

Jackson (1-1) scored two unearned runs in the first inning, but the Dragons moved ahead with a thre-run third.

Levi Petzoldt suffered the loss, allowing seven runs and six hits in 2 innings.

Rex Meyr had a double for Jackson, which was outhit 12 to 4.

Justin L'Hote and Darin Yamnitz each had three hits and a home run apiece for the Indians in a road win.

Yamnitz scored four times for St. Vincent, which banged out 13 hits. Scott Blythe and Greg Rellergert added two hits apiece for St. Vincent.

Greg Finger picked up the win with six innings of three-hit ball. Finger struck out three and walked three.
