Pet-food photo misled readers

To the editor:I saw an article in Sunday's paper regarding the pet-food recall that Menu Foods is undertaking, along with a picture of Iams dry dog food on the shelf.

This picture is misleading the consumer into believing that this recall also affects the Iams dry pet food business, when in fact it doesn't.

As a former employee of Iams, I know that Iams used to make its own canned pet food in its North Sioux City, S.D., plant but sold that plant to Menu Foods about five years ago.

Menu still makes and packs canned pet food for Iams, and while there is a recall for Iams canned pet food, there is no recall for any of the Iams dry pet food.

I don't feel the implied link of the Associated Press picture of Iams dry pet food on the shelf to the article was factual or fair to Iams and certainly should not be considered quality journalism.
