Letter to the Editor

Warming critics being silenced

To the editor:As a Catholic lad in public school, I was taught about how the Catholic church in the past silenced any dissension from church doctrine. Newton, Galileo and mankind itself suffered because of the church's iron grip on European society.

This brings me to a church doctrine alive and well today: that global warming is caused by mankind. There are arguments and computer models to support this belief. But few people know that most scientists disagree with these findings. Although most agree that the world is warming, they insist it is a natural occurrence.

The reason we are not hearing from critics of man-made global warming is because of threats and intimidation funded by a $32 billion war chest.

Many scientists risk the loss of tenure by criticizing the global-warming dogma. Others risk losing privately funded grants by congressional bullying.

If the proponents believe that global warming is the result of mankind and have the necessary evidence to support this claim, why wouldn't they welcome a public debate with the scientists that disagree?

The Hollywood global-warming church is acting no differently than the Catholic church in its intimidation of dissenting qualified scientists. The people who worship in the man-made global-warming church have a right to do so, but forcing the rest of us to kneel at their altar is wrong.
