Library plan is too grandiose

To the editor:After reading the article on the front page of the Southeast Missourian about the $9 million Cape Girardeau Public Library expansion, I have to wonder whose grandiose idea that was. The plan includes a drive-through, a coffee bar (so patrons can spill coffee on the books?) and video games. If the library would remove these games, maybe the patrons who need computers for serious purposes could have access to them instead of the children monopolizing them.

I always thought a library was a quiet place where we could go to read books and learn, not an arcade. And who is going to foot the bill for all these ill-thought ideas? The homeowners, as usual. We are always the ones who get soaked with paying for all these money-wasting projects. Think of how many apartment dwellers and mobile home owners who live in this city and don't pay a dime in real estate taxes. Sure, they pay personal-property taxes, but the homeowners pay both. I am sick of my hard-earned tax money being spent on frivolous things we don't need.

Come on, voters, let's get to the polls on Feb. 6 and just say no to yet another waste of our money.
