Cape County property value review underway
Friday, January 26, 2007
The biennial review of property values in Cape Girardeau County is underway. Assessor Jerry Reynolds said Thursday that workers from his office, both employees and contract workers, are fanning out across the county to review the information about real estate to ensure it is up-to-date for reassessment. Every odd-numbered year, counties are required to revise property values to reflect market conditions.
Following the reassessment, Reynolds said, anyone whose property valuation has been increased will receive a notice from his office. The notices will include instructions for anyone who questions or wishes to challenge the higher assessment. The process of reassessment will take two to three months, he said, with all the notices going out to property owners by late spring. Only property owners with a higher value will receive the notice, he said.
