Two Bernie residents found dead at home

Two rural Bernie residents were found dead in their home in rural Bernie Monday afternoon, according to Stoddard County Sheriff Carl Hefner. The bodies were found inside the residence at about 1:15 p.m. Monday by a family member. Dead are 42-year-old Cecilia Z. Lopez and 48-year-old Bradley E. Bridges. The Major Case Squad -- made up of officers from the Stoddard County Sheriff's Department, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and a member of each police department in the county -- secured the scene and began to process evidence immediately. At this time authorities do not suspect foul play or believe the deaths were the result of a homicide. The sheriff said that autopsies on the two were scheduled to be performed Tuesday at the Mineral Area Hospital in Farmington and that it could take as long as eight or more weeks to receive reports from toxicology results, which may reveal what the cause of death was for the couple.
