Sikeston man injured in assault at home dies

SIKESTON, Mo. -- A Sikeston man who received multiple injuries in a Dec. 5 assault has died, and his assailant's charges are expected to be upgraded to first-degree murder. Michael Terry, 49, died shortly before 2 p.m. Tuesday, Sikeston Department of Public Safety director Drew Juden announced in a news release last week. After the Dec. 5 assault, Vincent Minner, 42, of New Madrid, Mo., was charged with three counts of first-degree assault, three counts of armed criminal action, one count of first-degree burglary and one count of tampering with a witness. Upon notification of Terry's death, Scott County prosecutor Paul Boyd said he is seeking to amend the charge to first-degree murder. Terry and his wife, Jennifer, were assaulted at their apartment at 819 Davis Blvd.; Terry had been hospitalized and in serious condition since the assault. In the altercation, he received three gunshot wounds and multiple stab wounds. Minner and Jennifer Terry were also wounded and transported to the hospital. No further information about a motive or the assault can be released, DPS Lt. Mike Williams said.
