Letter to the Editor

New year holds great promise

To the editor:Excitement rose as I watched with thousands of people the large crystal ball slowly descend and usher the nation into the new year of 2007. What joy. What memories.

Times does run out for everything, including life. Recently, the nation lost one of its finest presidents, Gerald Ford, who served with dignity, pride and skill and was loved by many.

The year 2007 offers much in the way of improvement, accomplishment and possible surprises. Special and long in waiting, most desired and with an effort that was quite rewarding is the beautiful River Campus school of arts that certainly must be the biggest accomplishment of all for Cape Girardeau, one that will show an increase in population and social activity as well as an increase in business.

Adding to the distinction and growth of Cape Girardeau is the new and spacious federal courthouse that will add charm, warmth and additional office space.

Schools continue to progress with additional buildings and a decided increase in enrollment. Notre Dame Regional High School especially is showing gains in activity and awards. Students show and increased amount of enthusiasm.

The year 2007 continues to shower Cape with success, shows broader and wiser views of life, furnishes many blessings to be forever thankful for and allows joy in abundance. How could we ask for more? Happy new year.

PAULA E. KEMPE, Cape Girardeau
