Ruth B. Underwood, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Dec. 18, 2006, at Ratliff Care Center.
She was born Sept. 6, 1916, in Marquand, Mo., daughter of Walter Leonard and Zettie Starkey Edwards. She and Grover Iahn were married in 1937. He died in 1959. She later married Gilbert Underwood in 1967. He died in 1984.
Mrs. Underwood was a 1952 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University. She taught four years in rural Marquand, nine years in Marquand School District, five years in Phoenix, Ariz., and then 15 years at Franklin School in Cape Girardeau.
She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.
She is survived by a sister, Grace M. Smith of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Paul Edwards of Wilmington, Ohio; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pearl Yount and a brother, Ralph Edwards.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home today from 4 to 8 p.m.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Shawn Wasson & Richard Krueger officiating. Graveside service will follow at approximately 1 p.m. at Marcus Memorial Cemetery in Fredericktown, Mo.
