She was born June 13, 1915, at Elk City, Okla., daughter of Charles and Maud Wallis Green. She and Robert Daugherty were married in 1937. He preceded her in death in 1992. She later married Fred M. "Bill" Wilferth Jan. 1, 1996. He died Sept. 11, 2003.
Lou first received her teaching certificate from Southeast Missouri State University and later returned to complete her bachelor of science degree in education in 1965. She and her husband Robert lived in Valley Stream, N.Y., many years where he worked for American Telephone and Telegraph Co., and where she was a school teacher in Malvern.
In 1976 the couple retired and moved to Jackson. She was active both in New York and Jackson in the Order of Eastern Star, PEO, and was a former member of New McKendree United Methodist Church in Jackson and a current member of La Croix United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
Lou is survived by four children, Robert H. (Jolene) Daugherty III of Athens, Ohio, Nancy Lou (Michael) Shaffer of Warsaw, Ind., Judith Ann (John) Carlson of Lindenhusrt, N.Y., and John W. (Bonnie) Daugherty of Newtown, Conn.; seven grandchildren, Deborah Sager of Chicago, Rebecca (Michael) Hackelton of Nanjemoy, Md., Sarah (Matt) Schmidt of Warsaw, Peter R. Daugherty of Chicago, Kristen McDougall of Scranton, Pa., Katie and Megan Daugherty of Newtown; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a sister, Valera Johnson of St. Clair, Mo.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at McCombs Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating.
