Mildred L. Cobble, age 88, formerly of Jackson, passed away Friday, Nov. 24, 2006, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Sept. 17, 1918, in Marston, Mo. daughter of the late Marvin and Josephine Simmons Crowe. On Oct. 1, 1940, she married James W. Cobble at Hayti, Mo. He died Jan. 6, 1985.
Mrs. Cobble graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and taught in Missouri elementary schools in Marston, Cape Girardeau (Franklin School) and Boone County, Mo. She also taught over 23 years in Kingston, Rhode Island and traveled extensively with her husband when he worked for USAID in Korea, the Philippines and the Azores. She and her husband retired to Jackson in 1975. Mildred was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson and a member of the Barrett Circle.
Loving survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Eastwood of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Kaye (Michael) Patterson of Westminster, Colo.; three grandchildren, James Eastwood of Chapel Hill, John Eastwood of Taipei, Taiwan, and Jason Patterson of Westminster; two great-grandchildren, Chloe and Peter Eastwood of Chapel Hill.
In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
Friends may call from 12 to 2 p.m. Monday, Nov. 27, at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson. A private graveside service will be held later.
