Charles Henry Eugene "Gene" Diebold, 71, of Scott City, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 28, 1935, in Mount Vernon, Ind., son of John and Ruth Thomas Diebold. He and Mary Margaret Glueck were married May 22, 1954, at Kelso, Mo.
Diebold worked at General Sign Co. 30 years, retiring as service supervisor. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council 6420, past grand knight, 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Assembly 2283, past district deputy, past president of Scott County Historical Society, and was a co-founder of State Knights of Columbus Horseshoe Tournament.
He served in the National Guard.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Richard Diebold of Scott City, Wayne Diebold of Branson, Mo., Jeff Diebold of O'Fallon, Mo.; three daughters, Donna Joplin and Melissa Glover of Cape Girardeau, Gale Ledure of Scott City; a sister, Johnetta McConnell of Scott City; 10 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister.
Friends may call at St. Joseph Church from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday. Parish prayers will be at 7, followed by Knights of Columbus service at 7:15.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the church, with the Rev. David Coon and Monsignor Richard Rolwing officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery.
