Salute to Schnucks

Over the years, Schnucks grocery store manager Dennis Marchi and his store have been recognized with many of the highest awards bestowed for community service. From the United Way to school-assistance programs to opening his freezers for customers when electricity goes out, Marchi has been a creative leader in making daily life better for many in this area.

Each time he or the store have been recognized for their service, Marchi is quick to redirect the praise to his associates -- 11 have been with the store since it opened 30 years ago. Marchi also emphasizes how the Schnucks family inspired him to take a community leadership role -- similar to what they do in St. Louis -- when they asked him, in 1985, to become store manager in Cape Girardeau.

Today, Schnucks is celebrating its 30th anniversary in Cape Girardeau. Craig Schnuck, executive committee chairman of Schnucks, will be here to help lead the festivities. No doubt, much attention will be given to those associates who have been here for all of the store's 30 years. And that is how it should be.

Cape Girardeau is a better place, thanks to the Schnucks family, Marchi and all the associates who have worked there. Congratulations to them all.
