SPICKARD, Mo. -- A 17-year-old and another young person from Kansas City were arrested after an attempted burglary turned into a shootout in which the youths allegedly fired more than 40 rounds at three men and a sheriff's deputy.
The two were arrested Monday night after a chase that ended when officers used road spikes to stop their stolen car on U.S. 65 south of Spickard.
Daniel J. Schaffer, 17, faces 15 felony counts, including four counts of second-degree attempted murder. The other youth was being held in the juvenile detention facility in Kirksville, pending charges, and his name and age weren't released.
No one was seriously injured.
Schaffer is being held at the Mercer County Jail on $1 million bond. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 21.
