Benefit for tornado victims at Crosstown
A mini-fair benefit for Crosstown, Mo., tornado victims will start at 5 p.m. Friday at East Perry Fairgrounds. Leftovers from the East Perry Fair, plus a 6:30 p.m. mule jump exhibition and music at 8 p.m. with the Jon D. Hale Band, will create a mini-fair with proceeds to benefit the Crosstown area that was hit by a tornado Sept. 22. Fish, hamburgers, cheese sandwiches, soda and beer will be for sale. Haunted hall of horror begins Friday
Cape Parks and Recreation Department and River Radio will sponsor the Haunted Hall of Horror from 7 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday Oct. 20, 21, 27, 28 and 7 to 11 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 30 and 31 at the Arena building. All ages are invited; children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Pay at the door. For more information, call 335-5421.
Auction to fund Shriner's Christmas party
A live auction and dinner fund-raiser for the Shriner's children's Christmas party will open at 5:30 p.m.; dinner at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at the Drury Lodge. The menu is a half-slab of ribs, baked potato, green beans, cole slaw, apple crisp and drinks. Restaurant gift certificates, jewelry and an imported rug are some of the items on the auction block. Tickets are available from any Shriner, or by calling 837-3603 or 334-6112.
Applications for senior services due Oct. 31
The Senior Services Tax Fund Board will consider applications for calendar year 2007 senior-funded services within Cape County. A completed application is required that states a clear purpose of the intended use of funds and a clear budget description. For applications or more information, call chairman Dale Rauh at 331-5153. Applications and budgets must be sent to P.O. Box 223, Jackson, Mo., no later than Oct. 31. Interviews will be held during the early part of November at Jackson Senior Center. Applicants will be notified of the exact time.
Red House seeks supplies for crafts
Feathers, white or gray, about six to 10 inches long are needed to make crafts at the Red House Interpretive Center. Fabric scraps of cotton or cotton blend are continually needed as well. Contact Linda Royce at 334-1058 for more information.
Sides reunion held in Burfordsville
Children of the late Mr. and Mrs. Price Sides and family and friends recently met in Burfordsville for a reunion. There were 12 children in the family; seven are deceased. The remaining five children were all present. In attendance were about 70 friends and relatives from Ashland, Jackson, Pevely, St. Louis, Perryville, Burfordsville, Farmington, Wentzville, Kansas City, Stover, Arnold, St. Charles, Cape Girardeau, Sikeston and Desoto in Missouri; and from the states of Tennessee, Louisiana, Kentucky, California and Florida. After the noon meal, family pictures were taken and a drawing for attendance prizes was held.
Craft vendors wanted for Marble Hill bazaar
