Bell City, Woodland volleyball post SCAA tourney wins

Bell City and Woodland posted first-round victories Tuesday night in the Stoddard County Athletic Association Tournament at Bloomfield, Mo.

Top-seeded Bell City hammered the host 25-11, 24-6.

Woodland, the No. 5 seed, edged fourth-seeded Advance 25-14, 24-26, 25-19.

The Cubs (25-1) take on Woodland (18-8) at 7 p.m. Thursday in the semifinal round. Bernie and Dexter play in the other semifinal.

Notre Dame swept Central at home.

Meridith Medlin led the Bulldogs (12-9) with nine kills and 13 assists. Ashley Nenninger added eight kills. Emily Huber had 11 service points and Hailey Bohnert had 11 digs for Notre Dame.

Carissa Wheeler and Wendi Zickfield each had eight digs for the Tigers (13-11-2).

Chelsea Dale and Ashlea Soemo had eight kills apiece for Jackson (9-13) in a road sweep.

Chelsea Olson led the Indians with 19 assists, and Megan Glueck added 11 digs.

The Wildcats swept host Saxony Lutheran.

Kara Versemann had three kills and 14 digs for Saxony. Nicole Petzoldt had four blocks and Tiffany Haertling had added four digs for the Crusaders.

BOYS SOCCER Saxony Lutheran 2, Anna-Jonesboro (Ill.) 1

Saxony Lutheran improved to 9-3 with a win at Anna-Jonesboro.

Andrew Etzold scored both of the Crusaders' goals with assists coming from Garrett Fritsche and Alex Rodewald.

Eagle Ridge Christian 10, River of Life 0

Daniel Cohen scored five goals, assisted on another and shut out River of Life in the second half. Josh Wiseman was in goal for the first half and came out to score two goals in the second half.

Eagle Ridge (8-3) played with eight players due to injuries.

Aaron Shell had a goal and three assists, Stephen Cohen had one goal, Josh Carbaugh had a goal and two assists and Sam Davis had an assist.
